I left my abusive husband in 2017 he refused to sign paperwork for while (just being awkward) but i finally got a divorce in 2022. He doesn’t  see our sons 16 and 23 myself and the youngest child and i have a non-molestation order Against him.Due to his abusive and Harassing behaviour.

When I went through the divorce, it was through legal aid, as I was a victim of domestic violence. But the solicitor said they did not cover financial orders, so I divorced with out one. Recently I’ve been told I’m coming into inheritance. I’m not sure how much yet could be anything from £50,000 – 100,000 depending on My father’s pensions.

Under these circumstances can he still claim a part on my inheritance?

is there anything I can do to stop him?

If he doesn’t know about it, how will you find out ? or have I got a legally tell him about the Inheritance?

He’s engaged and has had a baby with a lady but they are not due to get married until next year.

Sorry my messages so long, but I wanted to give you as much information as I could.

Thank you

Hi there,
Given your situation, it’s crucial to consult with divorce financial settlement lawyers. They can provide specific advice on whether your ex-husband can claim part of your inheritance and what steps you can take to protect it. Generally, if the financial settlement wasn’t addressed during the divorce, he might have a claim. However, a lawyer can guide you on how to safeguard your inheritance and whether you need to disclose it.

Best of luck with everything.
